PNG Hekari United FC Director Mrs. Vonnie Kapi Nato has praised the return of veteran striker Raymond Gunemba, describing him as a rare talent and an inspirational leader for the Red Army ahead of their campaign in the upcoming OFC Professional League.
“I believe Raymond can be our marquee player because he comes from the same era as David Muta and Wira Wama , and we truly value that experience,” said Mrs. Kapi Nato.
“Beyond the younger players coming through, I haven’t seen many others step up and take on that responsibility yet — and that’s why having experienced players like Raymond in the team is so important.”
She reflected on Raymond’s long association with the club, recalling his development under Hekari’s system before moving to Lae City.
“Raymond, in particular, is a very rare talent. I’ve known him since his early days when he came up through Hekari before joining Lae City. We developed this young man into who he is today, and seeing him return is a real joy.”
According to Mrs. Kapi Nato, Gunemba’s professionalism and humility continue to inspire the younger generation within the squad.
“He brings great leadership and discipline,” she said.
“We had a meaningful chat where he told me, ‘This is a dream come true. I never expected this. I’m taking it from my heart to give everything I can — not just for Hekari, but for the country.’”
“Hearing that from him made me proud,” she added.
“It’s a joy to see his commitment and passion shining through once again.”
Hekari United is currently preparing for the OFC Professional League, set to kick off in January 2026 in New Zealand, with Gunemba expected to play a key role both on and off the field.
