Port Moresby, PNG – In a major boost for football in Papua New Guinea, PNG Hekari FC has officially welcomed four new arrivals from Brazil as part of its comprehensive preparations for the upcoming OFC Pro League, set to kick off on January 10th, 2026.
Arriving this morning in Port Moresby were Head Coach Marcos Gusmão, a respected tactician from São Paulo, Brazil, along with three talented players also from São Paulo — Erick Joe (central defender), Kaûe Silva (striker), and Rafael Chaves (attacking midfielder).
The new recruits were received at Jacksons International Airport by PNG Hekari FC Director Mrs. Vonnie Kapi Natto and General Manager Mr. Wira Wama, marking another important milestone in the club’s preparations for the regional competition.
PNG Hekari FC, the only Papua New Guinea club to have ever won the OFC Champions League (2010), has been working tirelessly to prepare for the launch of the new professional competition. Over recent months, the club has focused on strengthening its technical team, improving facilities, enhancing training programs, and building stronger partnerships to ensure a competitive squad for the Pro League.
The addition of the Brazilian contingent is one of several initiatives undertaken by the club as part of its broader plan to raise performance standards and re-establish itself as a dominant force in Oceania football. Preparations have also included new digital and media branding, community engagement programs, and investments in youth development to ensure long-term sustainability and success.
The official launch of the OFC Pro League will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, in two weeks’ time, where all participating clubs will be formally introduced. PNG Hekari FC will attend as Papua New Guinea’s representative, proudly carrying the nation’s hopes into the new professional era of club football across Oceania.
As the countdown begins, PNG Hekari FC continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence, professionalism, and growth — both on and off the field — as it prepares to make history once again on the regional stage.
